Dojo News.......... |
|
Wow were did
the past two weeks go.......... we had
a great trip to Boston (Henrich Sensei,
thank you for a great weekend!) And also,
the PEI seminars were a great success. The
MKD would like to thank YAGI, Akihito Sensei
for sharing his detailed knowledge of
Goju-ryu Meibukan. Between the two venues,
we were able to cover the complete Meibukai
Syllabus, including Meibukai Kobudo. A Photo
Gallery of the weeks events will be posted
shortly!
This years MKD Karate Camp
was originally scheduled for the first
weekend in July. Due to logistical problems
in Sensei's schedule, the camp will be held the
weekend of July 30th, 31st, August 1st, 2010. Again
it will be held at the Lord Selkirk
Provincial Park. As in other years the core
of Meibukai syllabus will be covered over
the weekend. And yes we will have our Friday
night midnight Meibuken Kata session. If you
have any questions regarding the camp talk
to Sensei in class. A schedule will be
posted shortly!

Philosophy
Corner..... Giri, fulfilling a sense of duty |
|
Giri -
義理
Giri or
Loyalty plays such a vital role in a
students development. One must always return
to his teacher for refinement in technique
and character, even after many years of
practice. It can also be defined as
to serve one's superiors with a
self-sacrificing devotion.
The term Giri is
derived from the
Chinese
yi (simplified Chinese义,traditional Chinese:
義; pinyin:
yì), meaning "justice" and
"righteousness".
An
example of Giri in pop
culture was in the 1975
film,
The
Yakuza, the
concept of Giri is a major
factor in the story. The
character Tanaka Ken (Takakura
Ken) owes Harry
Kilmer (Robert
Mitchum) a "debt
that can never be repaid,"
for saving the life of his
sister and her young
daughter during the post-war
occupation of Japan. In the
film, he describes Giri to a
Westerner as "the burden
hardest to bear."
